Fatoumata Diawara - London Ko
Fatoumata Diawara | Nsera
Born in the Ivory Coast in 1982 to Malian parents where she spent the early part of her life, she moved to native Bamako in Mali. When she was eighteen, Diawara moved to France to pursue acting. She briefly returned to Mali for a film role but fled back to Paris to avoid being coerced into marriage by her family.
Since 1996, she has been involved in 12 film performances, sometimes acting, sometimes as herself. But music is where she has left a measurable impact with almost 20 collaborations and three significant albums, 2011: Fatou, 2018: Fenfo, 2022: Maliba, and now her fourth released a few weeks ago, London Ko (3ème Bureau/Wagram Music).
There are several collaborations on this album. Damon Alban (Blur; Gorillaz) is the producer. Six of its fourteen tracks are co-written with Albarn. Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca, Ghanaian rapper M.anifest, Nigerian star Yemi Alade and American singer Angie Stone are the main other collaborators.

JAAY DÓOLE - SAHAD
I featured Sahad’s album Luuma last June. It is a very pleasant and accessible album and would still recommend it. I have heard nothing new from Sahad until the release of this new single. For more than 10 years singer-guitarist Sahad Sarr from Dakar, Senegal has been gathering a wide range of influences in Africa and beyond.
"Jaay Doole is a wake-up call against governments that impose a vision by force.
It is a cry of this repressed youth in search of change.
A call for good governance and respect for human rights through balanced justice.
A hymn to peace and social cohesion."
- Sahad Sarr
Also on the show this week, I’ll be playing some of the lesser known and more interesting musicians who appeared in Glastonbury this year, including Australia’s Teskey Brothers.
The Teskey Brothers - Hold Me (Glastonbury 2023)
And Korea’s Ak Dan Gwang Chil otherwise known as ADG7
ADG7 - Whatever (Glastonbury 2023)
Until next time, see ya.
