You may have heard of ChatGPT, “an AI language model developed by OpenAI. It is a variant of the GPT (Generative Pretrained Transformer) model and was trained on a large dataset of text conversations to generate human-like responses in natural language. It is designed to be used in various conversational AI applications such as chatbots and virtual assistants.” The following article about Lucas Santtana was written by ChatGPT.
Lucas Mascarenhas Santana, known by his stage name Lucas Santtana, is a Brazilian singer, composer, and producer from Salvador, Bahia. His music style combines Brazilian guitar tradition from the 1950s with modern mashups, samples, and original compositions. His album "O Céu É Velho Há Muito Tempo" was named one of the 25 best Brazilian albums of the second half of 2019. Santtana's upcoming ninth solo LP "O Paraíso" [was] released on January 13th via French imprint No Format! and features a mix of Brazilian music, jazz, and electronica. The album is a timely hymn to nature, with a gentle tone that is both seductive and sensual. Santtana sings in Portuguese, English, and French, in praise of nature and our place within it. The third single, "The Fool on the Hill," features Santtana and Flore Benguigui covering Paul McCartney's 1967 classic and comes with an animated video that emphasizes the message of the song. Santtana will perform a headline show in London on February 16th to mark the release of "O Paraíso."

More often on the show I play music that is a fusion of old and modern, but that is unique amalgamation. One of the cheesiest videos that I’ve seen in a long time - and one of the opening songs in this week’s show. Fortunately, it’s intended to be cheesy – see it for yourself. From Mexico City, formed by Friné Alejo and JP Guerrero, Juanpalitoschinos inspiration is drawn from by Japanese City Pop from the 1980’s – which they blend with the indie music of Latin America. And I think there’s a hint of BeeGees there, too.

The Tárkány Trio was established with the intention of creating the first band that plays the original Hungarian folk dulcimer music. Bálint Tárkány-Kovács is the Prima (or leader of the trio): “The leader of the orchestra is called prima, that is, the first, he can play any instrument. Most often these violinists, but sometimes dulcimer and clarinet players also took the lead. This record commemorates these dulcimer primas, I want to continue this Hungarian dulcimer tradition, hence the title of the album: The dulcimer prima. It was noticeable in the playing of the cymbal players that these outstanding musicians could have taken over the role of violinists at any time, unfortunately the collectors rarely asked for this, they had many other tasks.”
He is joined by Márton Fekete - viola, and and Péter Molnár - bass. Here’s a 27 minute performance of their music.

From the Highlands of Scotland Elephant Sessions formed in 2012. They are Euan Smillie (fiddle), Alasdair Taylor (mandolin), Seth Tinsley (bass, synth) and Greg Barry (drums, samples). They create a progressive blend of intricate tunes, combining trad, funk and electronica.
Gigging extensively around the UK, they built a fan base and went on to release their debut album The Elusive Highland Beauty in 2014 to critical acclaim. This album and its subsequent tours and festival appearances saw the band winning the Best Up and Coming Act category at the BBC Alba Trad Music awards in 2014. Since then, the band have made live appearances at some of the most notable venues and festivals across the U.K, Europe and Australia, including Glastonbury, Byron Bay Bluesfest, Colours of Ostrava and multiple headline sell-outs at Celtic Connections. They were winners of the BBC Scots Trad Music Awards “Album of the Year” in 2017 and “Live Act of the Year” in 2018.
Their new album For the Night was released in September.
