Featured Album - Talassa by Dario Muci
Dario Muci - Ommuammare (Live)
Dario Muci is a Cantastorie,a singing storyteller, from Salento. He combines his performances with research on oral traditions of Southern Italy, particularly the Salento region.
Dario made his music debut in 1997 with the band Dakkamè and in 2000 he began working with the influential Officina Zoè. He has written several soundtracks for films and documentaries.
For someone with such a long and distinguished career, he has released very little. His first album "Mandatari" in 2007 followed five years later by Sulu. His new album is Talassa and is featured this week on Around the World.

Next Week
I will be Brno bound next week for the Brno Music Marathon.
Brno is the second city of the Czech Republic and is a UNESCO City of Music. The annual four-day international multi-genre music festival is held in the historical centre of Brno.
Among the performers are Estonian duo Puuluup, classical musicians Anežka Nováková & Keishiro Mikawa, Ireland’s Catriona Gribben, Serbia’s body percussion duo
Alice in WonderBand, and leading the musical theme of the whole event, French accordionist and artist-in-residence Vincent Peirani. “Vincent Peirani … represents a new wave of jazz musicians who refuse the established boundaries and limits. Instead of following the beaten path, they choose to explore new territories and new directions in music.”
The Organisers say, “The festival aims to offer visitors genre diversity that creates space for new discoveries and experimentation. A team of experts is in charge of the festival's unique dramaturgy. They all differ in genre specialisation, and through that, they invite top musicians to the festival, both established artists and lesser-known talents from Brno, the whole country, and abroad.”
The festival also includes street performances by buskers, and by artist Kateřina Šedá.
There are UNESCO Cities of Music around the world as part of the Creative Cities Network. “Brno Music Marathon,” say the Organisers, “is the most important event created under the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, of which Brno, as a city of music, has been a part since 2017.”
