XABI ABURRUZAGA - TRIK IT EASY
Xabi Aburruzaga’s Bask is a vibrant celebration of Basque tradition fused with global influences, showcasing his mastery of the trikitixa (Basque diatonic accordion) and his vision of folk music as a universal language.
Xabi Aburruzaga, born in Portugalete in 1978, is one of the most respected figures in contemporary Basque folk music. A virtuoso of the trikitixa, he began studying music as a child and quickly distinguished himself with his innovative approach to traditional sounds [Wikipedia]. Over more than two decades, Aburruzaga has built a career blending Basque heritage with international styles, releasing acclaimed albums such as KeltiK and Bost, and performing widely across Europe [aburruzaga.eus]. His work is often described as both deeply rooted in identity and open to global dialogue, making him a cultural ambassador for Euskadi.
Released in late 2025, Bask is his latest project, featuring 13 tracks that highlight his collaborative spirit [Amazon Music Unlimited][Gaana.com]. The album includes guest appearances from artists like Kalakan, Mikel Markez, Xabier Díaz, and Thaïs Morell, weaving together Basque rhythms with Celtic, Latin, and world music textures. Songs such as “Trik it easy” and “Afreekandango” exemplify his playful yet sophisticated style, while pieces like “Doinu bat bakerako” carry a message of peace and unity [Blogfoolk Magazine]. Bask is not only a homage to Basque culture but also a testament to Aburruzaga’s belief that folk music transcends borders, inviting listeners everywhere to share in its joy.
