Mon Resi by Christine Salem and DJ Click
Released October 11, 2023
The most recent album from Réunion musician Christine Salem was released almost three years ago. Her mix of Mayola music, blues, chants, percussion and even Sega, Réunion’s other popular style, has featured often on Around the World. DJ Click [Linktree], the producer and musician is no stranger either. His most recent work with Masha Natanson, Eugenia Georgieva, and Ittai Binnun have all appeared on the show.
Christine Salem & DjClick - Malouwé (Urban Mix)

WOMAD New Zealand
25 years ago Peter Gabriel founded WOMAD in the south of England - an international festival celebrating what is now called World Music – the sort of music you hear on Around the World.
Since then several countries have run their own WOMAD including Australia, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, and New Zealand. A couple of weeks ago the organisers in New Zealand began announcing the line-up who will be playing next year from 15 to 17 March.
In the second part of the show, and over the next weeks and months I expect, I’ll be playing some of the musicians who have already been announced, especially those I’m hearing for the first time. Here are three examples of New Zealand musicians you will hear this week.
Tio - Black Butterfly
I have played Tio (Tio Massing) before, but only once and he deserves more. Tio is from Ambrym island in Vanuatu and is in the first tranche of musicians announced for WOMAD New Zealand.
Rei - Hoki Mai / Come Back
Rei is new to me. His website says “Rei is the next generation of Aotearoa/NZ bilingual artists fusing international sounds and setting his sights firmly on taking NZ's unique culture to the world and making some bangers on the way!
Rei (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Pākeha) is a musician from Wellington, Aotearoa (NZ). Currently based in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland, his music seamlessly bridges multiple genres, in particular, Urban and Electronic.”
Anthonie Tonnon - 'Entertainment'
Another New Zealand musician - new to me and to the show - is Anthonie Tonnon Anthonie is a songwriter and performer based in Whanganui, New Zealand.
There will - of course be a lot more. You can read the full running order at davysims.com from Sunday 5 November.
Until next time, be fabulous.
