Zore - Ildikó Kali
Ildikó Kali - Ildikó Kraicová - has released five studio albums on various labels from 2004. Four of them were recorded with her band Romanika. After the pandemic she returned with solo project Zlatá Panna (Golden Maiden) based on the poems of the 19th century romantic poet Ján Botto. These old ballads were shortened and arranged for a contemporary audience. This 2021 album became one of the finalists of Slovak Radio_head Awards in the World Music/Folk category.
The new collection of songs titled after the refrain of the opening song Jore Jore is a kind of supplement to Zlatá panna. Within the album songs mix Slovak music and African chants and melodies. There are three songs based on the poems of Ján Botto, and songs using lyrics by other authors, including famous Slovak novelist Dominik Tatarka.
This is essentially a self released album and perhaps a little more obscure than many of the albums I play on Around the World. I’ve noticed it’s not on Bandcamp. I have a CD of the album, but you might find it more easilly on some of the streaming platforms such as iTunes or here on Spotify.
One of the most energetic bands I’ve see play live is Bosnia’s Dubioza Kolektiv. With music that ranges through Punk, Ska, Balkan, and Avant Garde with stacks of energy and enthusiam in the studio and on stage. They have a new, rather tongue in cheek single, Balkan Boys.

Talking of energy … this is the excellent Leenalchi from South Korea who have a new single. There are a pansori pop band formed in 2019. Classical Pansori is a Korean genre of musical storytelling performed by a singer and a drummer.
