Ichiko Aoba - SONAR (Official Music Video)
Even though Ichiko Aoba has been recording and releasing her music professionally since 2010 when at the age of 19 she released her first album Razor Girl (Japanese: 剃刀乙女). She has since released a further 9 studio albums and 8 live albums, her name and her music is new to me. I think it was the Guardian’s feature (below) that first set me in search of Ichiko' Aoba. Apart from her standalone music, she has composed for both film and theatre.
She is currently on a World Tour which continues through Europe, UK, USA, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and Japan until at least this time next year.

Music of Canada
Florent Vollant - Tshishe Manitu
I play quite a lot of music from Canada on Around the World, but recently I admitted to falling into a Canadian singer songwriter “rabbit hole”. And a very pleasant experience it is. My friend Dan Rosenberg, who lives in Canada, told me about an album he helped produce in 2003 “The Rough Guide to the Music of Canada”. It’s no longer available, but you might be able to put your own version together from the tracklist on Wikipedia.
The song I played this week is Tshishe Manitu by Florent Vollant & Zachary Richard.
Piers Faccini & Ballake Sissoko - If Nothing Is Real (Live)
Piers Faccini and Ballake Sissoko are two of my favourite musicians. They have collaborated on a new album, Our Calling.
Ballaké Sissoko is a Malian player of the kora. He has worked with Toumani Diabaté and Taj Mahal, and is a member of the group 3MA with Driss El Maloumi and Rajery [*]
Piers Damian G. Faccini (born 1970) is an English singer, painter, and songwriter. [He] was born in London, England to an Italian father and an English mother. His family moved to France when he was five years old. [*]
(Hey, guys! Hold the ‘phone horizontally next time.)
