NOURA MINT SEYMALI - “Guéreh” كيره
Mauritanian griot Noura Mint Seymali has crowned a landmark year with the release of Yenbet and the prestigious WOMEX 2025 Artist Award.
In a career defined by the tension between preservation and reinvention, Seymali’s latest album Yenbet (Glitterbeat, November 2025) is her most ambitious statement yet. Rooted in the Moorish griot tradition, the record is a dazzling fusion of ardin harp, tidinit lute, and psychedelic guitar, propelled by her husband and longtime collaborator Jeiche Ould Chighaly. Tracks such as “Knou” and “Moughadim Karr” showcase her ability to weave Hassaniya poetry into hypnotic beats, while “Guéreh” stands as a defining anthem, balancing desert blues with modern urgency.
The album arrives as Seymali receives the WOMEX Artist Award, a recognition reserved for musicians whose artistry transcends borders. The accolade places her alongside luminaries such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Calypso Rose, affirming her role in carrying Mauritania’s classical tradition to global audiences. Born into a lineage of praise singers and poets, and continuing the legacy of her stepmother Dimi Mint Abba, Seymali has spent decades elevating Mauritania’s music from regional heritage to international stage.
With Yenbet, she achieves what few artists manage: a record that is both faithful to centuries-old griot repertoire and thrillingly contemporary. The WOMEX award underscores her dual achievement—guardian of tradition, innovator of sound—and confirms her as one of the most vital voices in world music today.

SADU “Luukered” | Hommik Anuga
Estonia’s emerging ensemble SADU has quickly established itself as one of the country’s new sounds in contemporary folk.
Formed around Sandra Sillamaa (vocals, whistles, jaw harp, bagpipes) and Sofia-Liis Liiv (vocals, violin), with production by Fredi, SADU blends traditional Estonian timbres with pop and world music. Their debut album Probleemid Paradiisis has drawn attention for its inventive arrangements and lyrical depth, while singles such as Luukered and Igavene have gained significant traction online.
In October 2025, SADU’s rising profile was affirmed at the Etnokulp Folk Music Awards, where they received the Raadio 2 Special Award, marking them out as a fresh force in Estonia’s evolving folk scene. With their fusion of heritage instruments and modern textures, SADU exemplifies a new generation of Baltic musicians reimagining tradition for global audiences.
