Andrew Guruwiwi Band - Sing your own Song
Andrew Gurruwiwi Band - Gatjumak
Sing Your Own Song is the debut album release from Northern Territory musicians, the Andrew Gurruwiwi Band. From one of the remotest corners of Australia, in northeast Arnhem Land, they have pull together a world-class ensemble to make the a musically diverse and danceable album.
Gurruwiwi’s influences are broad and extend well beyond Australia. You can hear African rhythms, there is more than a hint of reggae, yet Indian, Mexican and even a touch of flamenco find their way into Sing Your Own Song.
The Andrew Gurruwiwi Band has been playing together for around four years, having earned a loyal following for their vibrant live shows and songs like 2023’s Gatjumak.
Recorded in Sydney’s Parliament Studios, the sessions in late 2023 saw the band joined by acclaimed guitarist Francis Diatschenko (Gurrumul/The Sheikhs), the horn section from Kiwi dub fusionists Sub-Tribe, founding Yothu Yindi bassist Stu Kellaway, the exemplary stylings from Mali’s guitarist Moussa Diakite, violinist QVLN and production by global instrumentalist Julian Belbachir.
