DLÙ - Moch
This young Scottish band released their first album in February. “Self-proclaimed modern trad fusion band, DLÙ are getting well-deserved attention and praise for their debut album, Moch that means ‘the start of things, a dawning’ in English.
“The gifted five-piece have created a vibrant, uplifting and exceptionally eclectic collection showcasing a quality that became evident when they were nominated for the MG Alba Scots Trad Upcoming Artist of The Year Award in 2019.” [Album of the week in Celtic Music Radio] You can read more about them here in Folk Radio which predicts this will be one of the contenders for debut album of the year, and here in Folking which helps with the pronunciation of the band’s name.
Red Baraat
On the (very) long list of bands I would like to see is Red Baraat the New York based bhangra band led by dhol player Sunny Jain. I’ll be starting the show with one of their tracks and in the meantime this is their exciting performance from NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert.
Silvana Estrada — La Corriente
This version of the song on the show is not from Marchita, but a live performance at Madrid’s Royal Palce.

Slovenia has a population of 2.1 million, about the same as the six counties of Northern Ireland plus Donegal (and a bit of Cavan) and an almost identical population for that area, too.
While is in on the landmass adjecent to the Balkans, it's not really part of the peninsula. Although, some argue that anything south of Ljubljanica, the river that flows through Ljubljana, is Balkan territory. Sounds like an arguement I shoud avoid.
Culturally and historically Slovenia gravitates towards Austria in particular, and also Italy and Germany. You can stand on one piece of land near Kranjska Gora and you can step into Italy and Austria while keeping one foot in Slovenia.
There is a confluence of central Europe, southern Europe, Alps, and Balkans in Slovenia's music as well as jazz, electronic and every other sort of music you might expect.
The last hour of the show this week is music from Slovenia. There are links to all the bands and musicians on the blog when it is published on Sunday.
