Souad Massi - Congo Connection (Clip officiel) ft. Youssoupha
Souad Massi’s new album, Zagate, arrives as her most liberated and outspoken work to date, a collection that threads folk, rock and poetry into something both urgent and deeply personal. The title comes from the French expression ça se gâte — “things are getting worse” — a phrase that carries a particular resonance in Algeria, where Massi was born, and in France, where she built her career. Recorded largely in the United Kingdom, the album extends the direction she began on Sequana, but with a sharper edge and a clearer sense of purpose.
Massi uses Zagate to confront the world as she sees it: war, violence, racism, and the emotional exhaustion of living through a relentless news cycle. Yet the record is not defined by despair. Instead, it holds fast to hope and courage, offering moments of stillness and clarity amid the noise.
As on Sequana, the album is produced by the English guitarist and producer Justin Adams, whose long association with Robert Plant and pivotal work with Tinariwen helped shape the modern sound of desert blues. More recently, Adams has recorded two acclaimed albums with Mauro Durante of Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, and that same instinct for cross‑cultural dialogue runs through Zagate. His production blends Maghreb modes, rock tension and Saharan atmospheres, most strikingly on the title track.
The album moves confidently across styles — electric rock on “Ana Inssan,” Afrobeat on “Samt,” Saharan folk on “D’ici, De là-bas,” and a smoky Parisian blues on “Chibani.” The guest list is equally expansive: John Baggott (Massive Attack, Robert Plant) on keyboards, Billy Fuller on bass, and two powerful diasporic voices — the Congolese‑French rapper Youssoupha on “Congo Connection,” and the Rwandan‑French writer‑rapper Gaël Faye.
Massi has said she wanted to “share my own vision of the world” at a moment when crises feel overwhelming. She resists calling herself political, but the album is unflinching in its engagement with injustice. Her voice — long associated with gentleness — becomes a counterpoint to the harshness she describes, carrying songs that move through pain, anger, revolt, hope and resilience with a rare emotional clarity.

Las Hermanas Caronni - Agua con legno
Twin sisters Gianna and Laura Caronni have returned with their evocative fifth studio album, El Espacio del Tiempo, released on 2 January 2026. This latest work continues their exploration of “chamber folk,” a delicate fusion of their Argentinian roots with European classical training and jazz sensibilities.
The lead single, “Agua con legno,” serves as a perfect introduction to the album’s aquatic and nostalgic themes. Translating to “water with wood,” the track highlights the sisters’ signature interplay between Gianna’s clarinet and Laura’s cello, creating a soundscape that feels both intimate and vast. Inspired by the seascapes of Brittany and childhood memories of the Paraná River, the album explores the “poetry of time”—its slowness, absences, and sudden bursts of light.
