Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek - GÜMÜŞ
Based in Hamburg, Derya Yildirim & Grup Şimşek are an Anatolian psychedelic rock band. Drawing from musical references ranging from the psychedelic 1960s Turkish pop through to more contemporary funk and jazz. They are fronted by vocalist and bağlama player Derya Yildrim. A baglama is a long-necked plucked string instruments used in Ottoman classical music. The rest of the band are from UK and France
They began in 2016 when the New Hamburg festival invited Derya Yildrim to work with the L'Orchestre du Montplaisant. Organist, Graham Mushnik and guitarist & bassist Antonin Voyant continued the collaboration with the addition of drummer Greta Eacott. Extensive European gigging and the 2019 debut album Kar Yağar. Dost 1 followed, and Dost 2 is the featured album this week.
I saw them play a couple of months ago, and they were animated and very spirited with masses of energy. A very appreciative audience supported them loudly. The album is much more restrained and composed, leading me to wonder if I was at the right gig! But I’m sure I was. The album is not as powerful as their performance, but it is a very enjoyable and sometimes haunting listen.

Baker Boy - Wish You Well ft. Bernard Fanning
Baker Boy is a Yolngu rapper, dancer, artist, and actor. He is known for performing original hip-hop songs incorporating both English and Yolŋu Matha (Yolŋu Language) and is one of the most prominent Aboriginal Australian rappers. He was born in Darwin in 1996. By that time Bernard Fanning was a member of Powderfinger, a leading Australian rock band. He’s now a solo performer. I liked Wish You Will until I saw the video and now I love it! It’s one of those “Wish I’d been there.” events. (Although that’s me over at the far side tapping my foot.)

Agatha Christie's Hjerson | Official UK Trailer
I do like a good Scandi-Noir crime series. But recently I have been watching a Swedish TV detective that has go too much style and colour and humour to be classed as “noir”.
Hjerson is a “disgraced” (or is he?) retired detective who solves crimes with his unwanted (or is she?) sidekick, TV producer Klara Sandberg. If Belgian detective Poirot had a distant Swedish cousin, he would be Hjerson. Because Sven is based on an Agatha Christie character … indirectly.
Agatha Christie created Ariadne Oliver, who in turn, has her own master detective: Scandinavian sleuth Sven Hjerson, He is brought to life, and taken to modern-day Sweden to explore new crimes and cases.
He collects 7” singles and scratches off the labels and as well as an enviable wardrobe, he has a great taste in music. I’m playing the theme tune on this week’s show.
